What does "soon" mean?

Just wondering, when someone says they will call you "soon" what do they mean?

That's so vague: today, tomorrow, the day after, "secretly I mean I'm not interested in seeing you again, I'm not really going to call at all?"

Most of what I know today, I learned from watching the Mickey Mouse Club, when I was little. Oddly enough, they covered the very thing you're asking about. At the end of every show, they'd sing the Mickey Mouse Song. At the end they did a little rubato thing where they sang, M..I..C (at this point one of em said, "C ya real soon", and then they sang, K..E..Y ( this is where one of em said, "Y? Because we love you"). From this I learned that if someone says they'll do something soon AND if you know they love you, you can expect it to be done exactly 24-hours later, on the same television station.

Seriously, "soon" is a non-commital term, and can be used to avoid the truth. On the other hand, some people use it regularly, and to them it means in the near-term. Near-term could range from an hour to a week by most peoples understanding. So, I guess saying soon could mean most anything, or, nothing at all, depending on who says it.

"soon" is entirely subjective and yes, it's vague.

It means the opposite really. lol! Guys say this as a way of pacifying us, to keep us quiet until they are ready to call again. usually it means the next day or sometimes they just say it but really never plan on calling you back but rarely ever do they call you back soon like on that same day. But its to make you think they are gonna call you back that day when usually they dont.

Well, I would say just wait a few days or so to find out. If you don't hear from him within that time, then he might not be interested.

I don't think soon really refers to specific time frame, it just means sometime in the near future.

Well if a guy says that it usually means never but it also depends on the guy!
