Guy's Behavior

He said "you own me"... why?

a guy never directly asked me out, i know him the last 5 years. his behaviour was always:glanicng, trying to be near me, trying to be noticed, staring, making a lot of eye contact.
i can't assume he liked me, becasue he never tried to approach me or flirt direclty. only all these signs.
his friends were hella polite to me while being douches to others.
so when i asked something about our work he answered all awkward. i was like ok, now imma asking him what's going on.
and he said that : "you own me".
I was like, what? he was all serious, looking at my eyes and stuff.
what does he mean?
He said "you own me"... why?
