What does it mean when a guy does a double take? Whispers to a friend? Stares a lot? Eye contact? Mixed messages?

A guy I have a crush on did a double take when he saw me. He looked at me for a second and then quickly looked back at me, I was nervous so we made eye contact for a second but I quickly looked away. Also a few days later the guy I have a crush on and his friend were walking infront of me, my crush looked back at me and whispered something into his friends' ear and then he turned around looked at me and whispered something back to him, I was pretending not to notice them but I was nervous and started blushing (they were blocking the hallway for a while so I couldn't pass them) as soon as I got the chance I walked away from them really fast and didn't look back. He knows I like him by the way (my "friend" told him) but he's never confronted me about it. He also sends me mixed signals, we make eye contact a lot and he's smiled at me a few times and I catch him staring at me a lot especially when I'm at my locker ( one time I was positive he was gonna talk to me, there's a water fountain next to my locker so he stopped took a drink looked at me while I was putting away my stuff in my locker then took another drink and I looked at him and he looked back at me like he was gonna say something but then he saw his friends, who are girls by the way, and I bumped into them, it was embarrassing) . He has dated some of my friends and made out with one of my best friends in a janitors closet but we've never talked except when I texted him asking him if he didn't like me or something, I know that was stupid, he didn't seem interested in talking at all, he only gave one word replies so I told him I'd leave him alone and he didn't reply. I'm really confused and I don't know if he hates me or what.

Sorry this was kinda long but please help me. What do you think this means? I'm a pretty shy girl if you haven't noticed.

A & D. You're 13... so he's probably around your age if he's in school with you. It's a little early for him to seriously know what he wants, and it's way too early for him to know how to talk to girls so that they won't be confused.

The fact that he stares at you is likely a good sign, despite it being slightly creepy. A guy in his early teens will likely stare at women he likes, fantasize about being with them, and do other awkward things that don't make the most sense. A guy that age who hates a girl would never smile at them unless it was obviously mockingly, and would pretty much make every effort to never be in the same room with her.
