Guys, Why would he pretend to be busy?

So i am seriously busy and have a lot on this week and texted a guy i was supposed to be catching up with and said i will let him know when i am next free. A day before i was going to be away, he texts me to let me know that he is not sure if he arranged to see me but that he is busy (gave a reason) and so will be tied up next few days...
I can't think of one logical reason why a guy would do this, i mean its not like i made a huge deal out of going away so he had no need to feel defensive. I am the one who texts all the time, so he had no reason to feel silly. The answer is probably obvious to a guy but i find it slightly odd being that i am the one who makes an effort as a friend a lot not the other way round?

Also just to add I told him I was busy first, so wasn't sure if this makes a difference?

I don't know about your guy, but for me, "busy" almost never means "not interested", actually.

Sometimes when I say "I'm busy", or act busy, what it really means is that I am not composed enough to reply and I don't want to give the girl the impression that I am negative or boring. So I tell her I'm busy or I don't reply until I feel I can be present in the conversation, be interested and interesting, be funny, and show her me at my best.

So you think he was saying this to look more interesting? That he is less boring while I am away? Funny thing is, its so obvious he is not busy. The only thing that isn't obvious about these type of lies is the reason behind it. Thanks for your message

No, I said for him, I don't know. I was just saying that for me, it's not disinterest so maybe for you it's not that he's disinterested either. I was just saying you can't know for sure, so it's best to see what happens instead of making yourself unhappy worrying for what could be no big deal.

no, its just if someone is free all the time it's not as interesting. It's like if a guy was too nice vs just being super nice on certain occasions.
