If a guy always defends you does he like you?

Whenever I look sad he'll defend me.

Like someone criticized my apartment, and he said, 'No it's good I lived there.'

Someone was indirectly saying it's not worth it to do the readings in class, (I always do my readings), he said no, it helps for the exam.

If I ever wince about something he'll say he can do it, (like I winced when I said I've to talk to this other guy), so he said he'll talk to him.

Does he just want to be my friend?

He likes you, men are naturally protectors and will stand up for a woman they care about. However, it could be that he thinks of you as a close friend or sister, but you would have had to known him for a long time. ^_^
