He thinks I'm obsessed with him?

So there's this guy that I've been crushing on for like 11 months or so. Nothing ever happened between us, he used to like me too but he always shows interest and then backs off. So we always flirt for one month straight and then don't talk at all the next one. He knows I used to like him a few months ago. I haven't seen him in three months because of the summer holidays and we haven't talked at all (school starts on Monday so I'm gonna see him again). The problem is, he was out with one of our mutual friends and my friend asked him if he likes anyone or sth like that, and he said "well, there's a girl that wants me but I don't really think that I want something to happen between us" and stuff like that (he said that this girl is me afterwards). Why on earth would he think I still like him after all this time while we don't even talk at all? He also asked (twice) another close friend of mine if I'm over him. This is starting to get on my nerves because he takes me for granted and thinks I'm gonna be there waiting for him to like me back. The way he talks about me liking him is very rude and he acts like an asshole. Like the world revolves around him. The truth is that I truly like him but this is awful and I don't want to be treated like that. What should I do? I think I should completely ignore him when school starts and be cold and distant, and if he tells anyone I have a crush on him again, I should talk to him, clear things up and tell him to stop, because what he says is not true. But what do you guys think? :(
