Why does my boyfriend constantly seek attention from other women?

My boyfriend of nearly three years, I have notice over the past I would say two years that he is constantly seeking attention / validation from other women, he goes on stranger chat rooms and speaks to people he doesn't even know, he has girls who are friends ish, and if they don't reply he will message them like three days in a row it's just all very strange. He is feeling very insecure about himself at the moment and is not happy so now he is going through one of his 'stages' I've seen a stranger chat room and him pesting for a reply from a friend who happens to be female. I just don't understand it, I used to take it personally and assume it was me, but I give him all the attention and or space he wants, I always make sure he knows I love him etc, but now I'm starting to think it's a huge insecurity which is never going to change and I am just going to have to accept that he does these things - please advise!

My boyfriend is working on the same Problem but it’s worse. He said it has nothing to do with me or smth and that even if I am the perfect woman it wouldn’t change anything. He needs sexual validation from other woman and he admitted that he see woman in a sexual object way. I know he struggles with it and he works hard on it.
