Guy friend acting awkward with me?

My guy friend is a bit shy around me. Everytime him and I talk, he always comes to me, smiling and says hello, then gets quiet. He only talks to me by asking questions and after I answer him, he gets quiet. I checked his body language and he sometimes fidgets his leg up and down and looks around when I'm not paying attention to him. If he sits next to me and we're alone, he is quiet, completely still, and looks at his phone the whole time. When his friends comes around (also other females), he seems to talk normally , make eye contact, and completely confident. Am I doing something wrong to make him "shut down" this way?

i used to do the same when i had crush on my friend. just make him feel comfy and talk how much he means to you and maybe he tell you the truth about his feelings.

he is nervous around you, but he also trying to spark some type of communication with you. It doesn't have to be obvious flirting it could be as simple as can you sit next to me or touch his shoulder lightly things that give a positive response too.

Oh, okay. He also tries to get close into my personal space by slowly leaning in or moving next to me and look at what I'm doing. When I caught him, he quickly turns away, smiling when I look at him. He also lightly punches or pokes my arm, why does he do that?

All of his actions are to show interest In you because he likes you. Everyone flirts differently and it seems like that his way of flirting.
