Why is it hard to believe your crush actually likes you back sometimes?

I know I'm struggling with this right now. I can't say for sure he likes me, but even if he came up to me and told me, I would have a hard time believing him. Nobody has told me they had a crush on me before, and my friends say it's because I'm too quiet. Why is it hard for you to believe your crush likes you?

I feel like it doesn't have to do with what you think of yourself at all, but rather what you think others think of you. Like you might find yourself hot but if you felt like no one else ever said that or thought so, the moment someone does you'd just be like um... you sure? So anyway you're probably like pessimistic. And probably don't talk so, since you're quiet you just wouldn't know who was into you if they were. Maybe you prefer the background and you're so use to it that you wouldn't expect attention let alone from someone you're into. Not to mention you wouldn't wanna get carried away with thinking that and then find out he's into another girl more, etc. you'd rather just have solid proof of that before you aloud yourself to be happy about that because he's your crush which would make it devastating if you got your hopes up when you shouldn't of. I think.

Wow! That's exactly how I feel! Omg! :) I don't know what is wrong with me sometimes though. I get attention from people, and my crush compliments me frequently (more than any other guy) , but I just I make myself think it's probably just friendly because he is a nice person. I'm not usually the centre of attention, and yeah I don't wanna get my hopes up for nothing

yeah you're like shy maybe and prefer the background so much that you're just use to it now despite other people liking you. And if it's your crush it's gonna be a bigger deal

What should I do? I don't know if he's just being friendly. My crush's friend said he talks about me, and said good things. I don't wanna accidentally miss a sign if it is there

umm, get one of your friends preferably a guy to like coyly talk about girls and ask which ones he likes and maybe even be like "my friend think's (insert your name here) is pretty hot what you do think?" like indirectly find out so you can't come up with the excuse that he's being nice lol.
