Why do guys think that sexism isn't a big deal?

Guys always talk about sexism like it's not a big deal like they won't care about sexist stuff and think it's ok and funny and say stuff like it doesn't exist anymore and they say that men go through more sexism nowadays but anyone who is a girl can tell you that is not true!!

Honestly the polls on this website just reaffirm this because I saw a poll that asked when you should tell a girl you only want to use her for sex and the girls answered the soonest answers and the guys answered the longest answers!

My father was a pretty big victim of sexism.

See, my mother died giving birth to me, and for the first twelve years of my life, my dad took care of me alone, while also having to work a full-time job. Because he was a man, and I was a girl, he came under close scrutiny; he faced many assumptions that a single father couldn't raise a daughter. Social workers even showed up at our home to make sure I wasn't being sexually abused. There was NO reason for them to assume I was, other than I was raised by a man.

My dad worked hard for acceptance of men in traditionally female roles, he was actually part of a big movement that helped giving fathers more rights as parents, and fought against discrimination. He went through a LOT, and he's my hero for it.

But you know what he never did? He NEVER complained about feminists. He just listened to them. And he understood. Because he had faced discrimination himself he knew it sucked, and he didn't waste time arguing who had it worse.

I have a very sexist mother, she berated, devalued and abused me every chance she got because of my gender. So please, don't devalue an entire gender because you are sexist. What she said is that sexism is worse for women and men don't really go through it or care about it. @DinaM I disagree, I do feel her statement was sexist. And the simple truth is, sexism is so much worse then it used to be, in some cases it is less apparent because it used to be more overt. But now that it is more hidden, it is so much more prevalent. It is much worse on both sides now because it is kept hidden and no one wants to face it. We can't fix it in a simple Internet forum, but if people realize that they are being sexist and offensive, at least we are moving in the right direction.
