Guy asks about my love life, guys in my life?

A guy I used to sleep with and myself have been messaging a bit again, he is on a semester abroad. We didn't have the typical casual sex relationship, we grew close and for the first time in my life I care about someone very deeply and want to see him happy. We used to discuss our love lives and I think the main reason we never started dating was because this other girl who was in his life at that point (nothing dodgy, or unfaithful the set up was casual dating). Anyway, he asked me about the guys I had discussed with him such as 'what bout that other guy?' and when I told him the details of one the guys being awkward round me he said 'nothings changed, he's still a weirdo.' What do you make of this?
