last Monday me and some friends a school set off the fire alarm for a laugh, the whole school had to assemble in the school yard and we missed afternoon lessons, we thought as no one saw us we got away with it scot free, to our horror the next day we were called into the head of years office and shown the cctv footage of us clearly setting off the alarm, she said we could be expelled but as we had exams in a couple of years time we would not, but we whould be punished and made an example of, our punishment is 3 FULL Saturday detentions plus tons of schoolwork at the weekends, we had a letter sent home to our parents and they had to sign it and the Saturday detention form with a timetable.
9am registration and uniform inspection,
915 am --1215 punishment essays,
1215--- 1315 lunch , we have to bring in a packed lunch and we can go in the playground if we want
1315-- 1630 copy out punishment essays,,
1630 tidy classroom then go home
HOMEWORK to be given in on Monday, write a 6 page essay on why its so important to only use the fire alarm in an emergency, copy this out 3 times total 18 pages, LINES write out 300 times I WILL ONLY PRESS THE FIRE ALARM IN AN EMERGENCY so my weekend is ruined do you think we are being punished fairly?

Yes, because the intention/motive was clear. You knew it was wrong before you did it. You were caught and thus have to pay the consequences. By doing this punishment (which I'd argue isn't that bad actually, considering it's just busywork), the hope is you'll learn that fire alarms are not jokes. They are serious things. If people began to take them less seriously, it would result in a large amount of lives lost when needed. It's like prank calling the police-- it's just not a good idea. The fact you're allowed to go on the internet is a blessing by itself. My parents probably would have straight up brought down the hammer of hell upon me and made me do yard work/manual labor with loss of privileges as a punishment. My weekend being ruined would be the smallest of concerns.

Likewise, 3 Saturdays is relatively light compared to expulsion or jail. You luckily got mercy since you have exams!

If you want to look it at objectively, you could say the 18 hours or whatever spent for your detentions is the time you collectively cost your school. Let's say your school just had 100 students. If you cost them all just 15 minutes of their time for the fire alarm, 15 minutes *100 students = 1500 minutes, divided by 60 = 25 hours. In all likelihood, your school has more than 100 students though. Thus, you're actually getting off easy by doing less time than what was used up.

Apart from students, pulling a fire alarm can signal the fire department, costing them resources/money better spent elsewhere, and it costs your school time/money. The teachers affected now have to rewrite their lesson plans in their underpaid jobs to deal with this.

Now, I get ya. We live and learn and do stupid things in our youth, but hey, sometimes the punishment is just of the learning process.

Yes, absolutely deserve it. Literally no one finds that shit funny. You wasted a full day of studies for many students, a full day of work for the teachers. That's also a full day of wasted labour that the school still has to pay the teachers for, which is money out of the schools pockets just going poof for nothing.
Also, I don't know for sure how the system works there, but chances are you alarmed the local fire department and they could have been on their way to the school. Wasting the time of the fire, police and other service departments is never funny, especially for the people who may need said services at exactly the moment they're away because of you.

The punishment is appropriate for your age group. If you were older and out of age, then you would have found yourself possibly with a criminal record.

You are doing that kind of punishment because you did something profoundly stupid that could have had knock on consequences - school wide panic (some people can have panic attacks which end up needing medical attention), injury if people decide to not follow the teachers and barrell out of the school knocking into everyone as they go or even just simply wasting the fire departments time when the could be busy saving people.

I get that you are a teen and therefore your brain is usually not focused on the after thoughts of your actions, in fact your brain will simply not be able to understand the gravity of what you did and what it could have done. the problem is next Monday and Tuesday ( not today ) are school is closed for school training and my parents said I will be spending those 4 days SHUT away in my room,
I will struggle being locked up for 4 days, my sister says I should just accept my punishment and get on with it, what do you think? or should I try behave and get my parents to go easy on me?
