Isn’t it obvious? The psychology behind it can be traced back to more primitive times. A man’s biological function is to propagate his sperm to as many mates as possible (this is the most basic and successful form of evolution, as The chances of his genes surviving and being passed on to future generations is much higher). Meanwhile a woman can get pregnant by only one mate, after which she must wait until her child is born before another male takes interest in her. That is why so many females in primitive species are so selective of their mates; they need to make sure that only the best man available to her gets to impregnate her and possibly take care of her. You’ll see this in modern instances.

From what I've read, the proportion of men and proportion of women who cheat is not that different.

However male cheaters are more likely to be actively hitting on other women, so they're more visible.

Men are more likely to cheat for variety, so sleep with a bunch of women on the side. When women cheat they tend to cheat with one, more attractive partner.

Though you can find both happening, you can find men cheating when miserable with one person, or women who sleep around.

Married cheating and people cheating on bf/gf are sometimes quite different.

To our eyes, guys are more un-loyal to us. But to them, we are un-loyal to guys. So its more about what type of person you getting involved with, HOW you're getting involved with them, and what about you that makes them want to cheat. People don't cheat without a reason. And most of them would rather not date and just have sex if that is how they are going to be. If guys today are going to be loyal to anything it's getting sex. Women too, but most guys would not be in a relationship unless their waiting, where sex is not going to be offered.

I believe you cheat when you don't respect the person you are with and a lot of men believe woman are submissive sex objects who belong to them and not to God - they don't acknowledge the spiritual aspects of their partners so they view them as disposable and unworthy of concern.

I don't think they are, but if this were the case my best guess would be that women show less respect to their men than men show love to their women. Basically... if a man doesn't feel respected he's more likely to cheat with someone who seems to respect him. I think women are equally likely to cheat when they feel unloved assuming they find someone who seems to love them. The thing is... more guys act lovingly towards their partners than girls act respectfully to theirs.

Loyalty is a matter of morals and choice, not gender. There are people (guys and girls) that think nothing of loyalty and commitment, while others are defined by it. Cheating is (and always will be) a choice. And a person of either gender can be immature enough to make that choice.

People are individuals. Some are disloyal. Some are not. Both groups contain large numbers of both men and women.

If you are asking in general, and the statistics do show that men on average are more likely to cheat but not by as wide a margin as most think, then biologically it could be because men on average produce about one billion sperm cells per month while the woman passes on average one egg per month.

I'm not so sure about that but, if that's the case, it's probably because of the male instinct to spread their seed as much as they can in the gene pool. Females usually act as the natural selections while male try to pass on their own genes. More partners mean higher likelihood to pass on their genes. But that's animalistic behavior and I'm not sure people who cheat are smart enough to realize this.
