He is older than me 5 years , we have known each other around 4 years now and he actually have a good earning job but at the same time he keeps giving me stuffs.. like one time I said my iPhone was broken he gifted me a new phone..
Later he got me many other stuffs like clothes , bags and shoes even it wasn't my birthday or any special occasions.
Also he keeps saying he owes me a lot obviously there was time when he was down ( he got fired from his previous job ) I was just there to cheer him up and he keep reminding me that.
There's a good reason why a man would be this overly affectionate to you through gift giving of this magnitude; he either wants to win your heart when actions and words aren't his specialty or he wants to be exclusive to you. You've helped him in the past during a time of struggle. Through such supportive encouragement and probably quality time with him, he saw you as someone who's to be irreplaceable. Now he's in the phase where he wants to share his income to make you happy in return through gift giving, which is nice and generous of him but a "friend" wouldn't spend this much money on someone who isn't a significant other.
I'd suggest keeping your eyes peeled on how he is around you. Does he love to be with you? Does he take you out to dates at times? Maybe he writes/says romantic or cute things to you? If the only form of affection he shows to you is through money, he's either afraid of losing you or he's trying to butter you up for intimacy. If neither of you don't mind the excessive gift giving, he can continue to do so but I can't say it's the healthiest way of showing how much you care and love someone.
The fact he spent so much money on an iPhone already for you when you needed one shows he doesn't see you as simply a friend. It's much deeper and more personal than that.
I'll cut through the BS for you: he wants to have sex with you. He may or may not also want to date you.
He's a "nice guy", which really means he has no confidence with women (romantically/sexually), so he pretends to be your "friend" and does a lot of nice things for you hoping that you'll fall for him and start giving him signs that you're into him. That way, he doesn't have to risk rejection by asking you out - he's terrified of rejection! He'd rather be beaten up.
If he was really a gift-giving nice guy, he'd be giving gifts to all of his friends - but he isn't. He's just a guy who really wants a girl, but has no confidence, and so he hopes that "being nice" will make up for that lack of confidence and somehow win you over.
Of course we all know that doesn't work (I'm a reformed Nice Guy myself), and if you tell him that there's no chance that the two of you will ever be more than friends, chances are he'll fade out of your life, because he'll no longer have any reason to be "friends" or give you gifts or whatever. You probably won't do this, though, because you'd rather take advantage of his false hope and use him for attention, etc. And he really only has himself to blame, but you really shouldn't let this continue.
He appreciates that you was there to cheer him up so that is why he gives you gifts. He could have a eye or feelings for you more than just friendship.
Not necessary. Kinda he is afraid that you leave him. Buying gifts insure that you stay and that you own him one. He could use you. He is now just a friend but what do you do if he wants more and says you own it to him, because he is so generous to you?
It's hard to know when to discuss the appropriateness of gifts from a male "friend." It can come gradually and then like BOOM one day it's Too Much. I've one friend I went to school with, he's only a year up on me. He's big with the gifts, nothing too expensive, but I had to discuss the "gifts" because I thought he felt he had to reward Me for being his friend". He's always been a chubby pumper in our crew, not obese not even "fat" but "girlfriends" and "dates" never happened much for him. I went with him as his "date" for his senior prom. It was a great night, I had the greatest companion. For me I can say I felt it the first time I was "treated like a lady". He was sweet, we did get intimate that evening, and a few times since. I'm kind of like a little sister and he figures "it don't take much to make her smile, why not?" But my "gifts" from him are nothing but that.
I'm telling you right now that he likes you as more than a friend. Ask him. Just say "hey, why are you giving me all these gifts? I appreciate it but I'm just wondering if maybe you are trying to tell me you like me as more than a friend?" If you think he's a nice guy maybe give it a shot and see if you would work out with him. Just remember buying gifts isn't the only thing that matters. You want a loving relationship with someone, not a sugar daddy.
He may like you, there are people who just spent money on the people they like and keep doing so. I relate to his gift giving because I do the same but for more than just one person, I see money as nothing more than a thing I can make the people I care about happy with.
Guys show affection very physically. When a guy offers to buy something for you, it means they enjoy your company. It's the same regard for both plutonic and affectionate relationships. Most of the time it isn't that he is materialistic, it's just that that is the best way he knows how to show appreciation for your company
That's sweet. At the same time tho a little over the top. He shouldn't feel a need to repay you with gifts. Fair enough him helping you out a little and doing small gestures that show he cares but not buying you new things all the time

He's in a round about way purchasing your affection. I havewomen friends. I share booze, stogies, andfood with them. That's it. Even birthday gifts are usually just booze. An iphone says something entirely different.
I disagree, I think that a guy has a very physical ways of showing that he cares for someone. While things may not go well in his life, he tries to keep someone in his life by showing that he will give them something in return they give him their company. Logically speaking if they don't have the money to buy others gifts, yes I would agree, but ultimately that is the guy's choice on how he wants to spend his money.

They are more ways for a guy to better himself than just saving his money. Like he could go out with friends, meet new people, work out, read a book, fiddle around with some hobbies, meditate, or even learning something new. The possibilities are endless. I think men and women very clearly have different strengths and weaknesses however, I think it boils more down to the individual's personal life situations than on one specific variable. You know what I mean?

The fact that you think a guy buying stuff for a woman is the reason for "what is wrong with men these days" shows more about your bitterness for the people that actually have these opportunities to do this for someone they truly care about. I have known guys and girls that have bought each other clothes, expensive dinners, and cars just because they thought it would be a great surprise. If you honestly think I put women on a pedestal because I buy something for a long time female friend because you think showing kindness for someone that has stuck with me for a really long time. I think that shows more bitterness on your part buddy. If you want to buy your long time female friends expensive gifts or even your long time male friends, go for it or don't. I'm just saying people that want to spend more money on someone they have known for a long time isn't a sign of weakness, it shows appreciation.
