What does it mean when a guy asks if you are still coming to town and then says he hopes he’s in town?

He asked me if I’m still coming, and I said yeah I’m still coming and told him the dates again and then he said I hope I’m in town.
he does do spontaneous trips so that’s why but I’m skeptical he said that because he doesn’t want to see me

It means he's playing power games with you. First he gets you to give him clear info ( you are coming to town) but then decided rather than be direct (he is / is not in town) he chooses to be deny you the level of clarity you gave him. He's a twat. Run.
