It could be that he blocked you. Can you see his last activity (when he was online the last time. It shows up at the top)? If not, could you see his last activity before? Some people don't show when they were logged in the last time, but for those who do, that's another way of telling that they blocked you. If he ended things with you, chances are he doesn't love you. It's not that he deleted his profile picture, but probably he removed you from his contact list, there's a WhatsApp setting that hides your prof pic once that happens.

Not necessarily the case. Assuming I had whats app, and assuming I had a girlfriend I broke up with and deleted my picture, it could be that I didn't want her thinking about me, sort of a way of putting distance there. But that's only assuming and assuming is assuming.
