INTP guys... why do you pull away after an amazing conversation?

omg hahaha, my brother is an INTJ, similar. Based on him and how you stated this I think of two possibilities right away.

He instinctively is introverted and is returning to his natural state of being an INTP.

He's an insanely good listener because INTP and in reality you were enjoying the conversation and he was just being a good listener and didn't see it as some amazing conversation so afterwards he just went on with his life. My brother has this experience when my mother or other brother talks to him. They think it was an amazing conversation and he's indifferent lol.

It could be something else but those two come to mind.

He was stalking a lot more actively and was very passionate about it. I would like to believe it’s the first option, but I don’t want to push him because I know that he values his space and time.

A lot of people in that personality genre do value their space and time. Also if he's INTP he probably thinks pretty deeply about things, so at some point when he feels up to talking to you, maybe try explaining to him that you're curious about why he tends to pull away after a conversation where you feel like you're enjoying it. Maybe follow up with things like "does it tire you out?" "Do you need time to process it?" or something like that, find your own words.

Just make sure he understands that you're asking purely because you're curious about how he thinks and you want to understand him better. You don't want to make him think that you're trying to find a way to entrap him into not being able to pull away. It's easy to make those types of people feel backed into a corner, and that's not good.

I’m INTP and I don’t think I would do that. If anything, I’d crave more of the same. I might wonder if the amazing conversation was just a fluke; and it could take some time to break the ice even on the second time. I certainly wouldn’t avoid the other person, though. Introverted is not the same as shy, but maybe he is also shy?

For me it's a I don't always know what to talk about especially through text. I'm much better in person because it is easier to let my mind just go nuts. In text I'm much more conservative and it can be even worse if she seems or comes off as disinterested.

Maybe he didn't think it was an amazing conversation? I had a girl that would call up and yak yak yak for 20 minutes straight, then whenever I tried to share something myself, she'd be like "Oh, I've taken up too much of your time, I love talking to you so much, you're such a great listener, I've gotta go".

I think it's normal for some people to pull away a little bit due to being taken by surprise at the intimacy. They don't want to feel like they're rushing in too fast or jumping the gun. Give him some space and see if he initiates contact.

He does it periodically, for no reason. He himself told me that he has never connected like this with anyone else.

Sometimes the focus and intensity of something like that needs to get broken up just because it's intense. Not stopped just a break.
