I've noticed this a lot lately, from conversations between men around me, and talking with men. I know this is very common in the black community.
It's like some men choose women that have very little in possessions. They lack a car or jewelry, something. Is it a sort of validation they get from doing it, like "I made her life better".
I heard this guy I know of, say "she doesn't have much" about some girl him and his friend were talking about. Another guy that got his heartbroken was saying he helped his ex get a car, paid her insurance, phone bill, paid almost all other bills. He also mentioned at one point "cause she doesn't have shit" or " the little bit that she does have..." to explain him paying for one of her bills whilst they lived together.
Maybe it's the men that need to be saved and they're doing it because of something they experienced in childhood
