Would you want a partner with similar hobbies?

Hobbies tell you a lot about people. Depending on your experiences, someone's hobby may make them more attractive to you than they were before.

Would you prefer a partner with similar hobbies to your own, or a partner whose hobbies are different from yours? Would you rather improve the connection between you and your partner while investing time in your passions, or reduce that time to experience something new that your partner enjoys?

There's no polar answer for this question; you're able to continue your hobbies and have new experiences regardless of your partner, but I'd like to know in what direction do people sway.

Not necessarily. It’s important that a couple shares one or more pastimes or active interests. It’s equally important that they each have their own individual interests that remain separate.
This is the balance that keeps people interested in each other long after they “know everything about each other”. The common interests give them something to learn and do together. The separate interests give them new things to learn about each other.
It doesn’t matter if they’re from before the relationship or if they’re started during.
My personal preference is that she has somewhat different interests and activities from mine. It makes getting acquainted more fun when you can learn from each other.

I think a good mixture is ideal. By having your own hobbies it gives you a bit of time apart which is healthy in a relationship. As well as that it also allows you to plan dates around introducing your hobbies to them. They may not like it but it would bring you closer I suspect as your getting to know each others hobbies in a fun way. If you have the same hobbies it's good as you can do them togehter as a way to connect and spend time together. And if they are similar the points above still stand.

You can both have different passions about what interests each of you have. It would be great to have at least some of the same as long as it doesn't turn into a competition between the two of you.

On the other hand, if the other person has absolutely no experience or knowledge about your passion, like astronomy for instance, the other person will listen to what they share about it, but has no idea what you're talking about 🤷🏼‍♀️

Maybe…. Not identical. I feel it’s healthy to have one or two things that you do on your own, this way you have stuff to talk about later on. One or two similar hobbies (cooking, gardening + mowing, hiking, etc) is good to build rapport, but some solo activities should also be peppered in.

Me and my girlfriend both share a love for the outdoors and sports but have slightly different hobbies which makes things really fun. Before I met her I was into surfing, diving, fishing, rugby, mountain biking, and hunting. She's into hiking, rock climbing, camping, tennis, and surfing which was the only hobby we directly had in common. Similar hobbies, but not the same.

Now after being together for a year, we've picked up each other's hobbies and merged as many of them together as we could. One of our favorite things is to hike to remote beaches, camp a couple of nights, and spend the days surfing, diving, and fishing together.

Then if we want time alone I often opt for a hunting trip with the boys, and she'll do climbing trips with her friends.

Similar. My passion is writing so he's gonna have to have some respect for that art form as I will rant about my books to him. I'm not a gamer at all, since I don't have the tools or time for it. But if my boyfriend was into it, I'd definitely play with him. All I want is a guy who respects my interests

People typically focus on the wrong things when it comes to compatibility.

It's statistically far far! More important to be in alignment in the morales department.

Politics, religious beliefs, etc those are what dictates a couples ability to last long term or not.

Similar hobbies. Me and my boyfriend have similar hobbies. We both love music and listen to it often. We both also love gaming though he's slightly more of a gamer than I am.
