He ghosted me or will he come back?

So, a guy from my college and I have been with each other for a while but we never officially went on a date. Just hanging out together and being affectionate. After talking to each other in the lockdown for almost everyday, he asked me out on a date. We have kissed before but never been officially on a date. So we went on a date in the morning right before his interview. He had an important interview right after but we didn't cancel our date. We met, had coffee. He even noticed my eyes. We clicked pictures but we didn't hold hands or kiss. I sort of expected him to initiate kissing like he always pulls me towards him but he didn't. I know that we were in a public place and where we are from, it is taboo to kiss in public. We fought over it later on call because I took this personally as I felt ugly and he said that he was nervous for his interview and someone had severe health problems in his family recently. We blocked each other and afterwards he didn't wish me on my birthday. Much later I got to know from his friends that someone died in his family, and he had to go live with his relatives for a while. It has been a little over a month since we last talked. I have been going crazy. I don't know when he will talk to me. I think about him constantly everyday. I just wait all day for him. What should I do?
