I’ve been seeing this guy for about a year now, we talk on the phone a few times a day almost everyday for hours and hangout often. I tried asking him what we were and he says he doesn’t want to rush or force things. He’s even asked me if I would say I love him? If he’s saying that he likes me, why wouldn’t he just ask me out? He says he’s never been in a relationship before and I’ve tried to ask him out and he joked that I need to get his a ring. I’m not really sure if I should wait on him to ask or just move on..

He's inexperienced and feels like a fish out of water. He has no idea what to do and is fearful of doing the wrong thing and seeing negative repercussions. Ask him to describe relationships he's observed and tell you what he sees as positive and negative about each of the qualities he lists. Ask him what value he sees in a relationship and how he would know who to choose and when to commit. Ask him what he seeks from a partner. Ask him what he believes he'd be bringing to a relationship.

The key here is communication. Without that, you're just guessing and assuming and dreaming. Even if you don't like the truth you hear, it's much easier to move forward when you know what you're dealing with.
