Because he thinks you are too big looking for him now and I hope you do NOT entertain give him a chance. That is not cute or motivating from him but shallow and fucked up. Find a guy who loves you for exactly who you are, not saying you aren’t good enough or lovable until your skinny enough to fit his shallow standards. Because you will torture yourself to stay small, developing a disorder, insecurities and depression just to keep him pleased rather than doing it because you are happy. You are NOT your weight and if he can only see that as your potential then you don’t need it.
