Why did he just drift away?

Long story short, I’ve been talking to a guy who still has a lot of emotional baggage. Because of that it is hard to connect with him but I still continued to be around with no true desires. We’ve been talking for about a month and we have had good times together. We planned to go to New York together and we did but when I arrived to meet him he talked mostly to my female friend and barley to me. He barley talked to me at all. He lost his phone but he would message me through instagram but didn’t know he lost his phone until I was leaving. He messaged me and asked if I left and he seemed upset that I told him I did and he just stopped talking to me. A week later he posted photos of me on Instagram but I didn’t take anything of it because he is a photographer but I don’t understand why he did what he did.

He’s got a lot of emotional baggage, that’s why. Maybe you were trying not to catch any feelings because of this, but you were robbing yourself of a true connection because he was not mentally in the place to give you that. He needs to address his trauma and heal before trying to date anyone, and you shouldn’t want a person who you are constantly trying to fix. It will only wear on you because you will always feel helpless, confused, and upset when you can’t cheer him up, or even really help him. I think these are things you have to recognize as well, and let him go.
