Why would a guy friend deny flirting?

It's kinda cheesy but definitely flirting. When I ask him why he does that he denies that it was even flirting! He's done this over the years subtly and has sent random love quotes in the past. We're thousands of miles away from each other but he still calls me up every 6 months to talk. On our last call he asked if I'm looking for a soulmate and I was like not right now. He said he thought I'd say that. We've been friends for 8 years now.

Maybe because he doesn't want to seem like he is the one who is chasing you especially when it comes to his ego... He felt that you're not interested in relationship even before you tell him.. and also he might feel that he's rejected , even if you didn't reject him, you just told him that you're not looking for anyone... So by denying that he flirted with you, it makes him feel better

So what should I do if I want to get with him and what should I do if I want him out of my life? After some 15 months he's texting me again, so it's exhausting to deal with him.

If you want to get with him as a friend, tell him that you two be good as friends and that friendship could last longer than a relationship and you could talk... If you want him of out of your life, try to send him short replies, end the conversation first and let him initiate all the conversations, he will get tired and leave or you could be honest and tell him that you don't feel OK about this friendship ( but it's gonna be hard and you may feel guilty)
