Do guys not like girls who are overeager in class (kind of showoffs but not really) even if they're really smart?

Boys are taught that they ought to be superior, not just compared to their female but also their male peers.
It's how they are valued by society: by their achievements, by the amount of money they make, by their accolades, by their social dominance and the overall standing in the social hierarchy.
A guy has to be "better" than most other people for him to be deemed adequate.

It's not that they are put off by a girl's intelligence, they simply don't believe such a girl would be interested in them in the first place.
