Do guys try too hard to impress girls?

Well it's kinda something that a guy said the other day that's been bothering me a bit. So I have this friend, and usually when we hang out we're getting either high or drunk. Just the two of us though, we never invite other people. But the other day we were messaging, and I had offered him a ride to work, and he goes "I'd appreciate all the rides you're willing to give." Which made me start laughing, thought it was smooth as hell. So I asked how long it took him before he decided to send that, he said he had been debating it for awhile "Because talking to me is a high pressure situation with a lot at stake, and he cares what I think of him." Which at first I thought he was just kinda joking, but then it kinda made me worry that he was actually worried about what I think of him.
Which kinda upsets me a little because, I don't want him to have to worry about that around me. And like, I don't even worry about that around him, and I generally worry about that around EVERYONE. But it's also like, really, we get high and drink together, and he's worried what I think? It makes no sense?

So do guys try to just impress every girl?

Not every girl, just the ones they care about. Growing up in the middle of two brothers I can tell you that guys do try to both impress girls and maintain their image with those girls. I've watched my older brother coach my younger brother on being smooth with the ladies.

Funny thing is that neither of them really need to worry about what the girls think, all I ever hear from other girls is that "your brother is so cute..." . As in girls already know they're both hunky, blond, buff, cute faces to go with it all; these are the guys worrying what girls think. From what I see those girls aren't they just throw themselves at them!

I don't think all guys are like that, but I think most all guys care about what they look like in front of a girl they care about.

Sounds like he likes you or values your relationship a lot. Some guys will try their hardest to impress you regardless of their interest, purely to feel accepted. I personally will only go out of my way to impress a girl if I am either romantically interested or need to make a lasting impression (e. g. for a job or to impress my girlfriend's friends)

Girls always think guys are showing off. If I wear a shirt that outlines my bicep too much then I apparently shop at baby gap and I'm trying too hard with women. I think women need to get over themselves and stop thinking that we literally do everything for them lmao.

I think they kinda do. Personally, I try to have a good social image to everyone, not just boys and girls. I don't try too hard, though.

yeah and it's always the things they don't see as special that impresses us xD At my work there's this guy who knows how to juggle. And I mean, a lot of guys can juggle. But this guy can juggle everything just sword of knives and stuff. But I'm a cashier, and at our store we only actually have two male cashiers, the rest are girls. One day it was slow, and so it was like a line of women and the one dude kinda looking for stuff to do. The guy suddenly picks up some rolled up blankets and just starts juggling. The girls all like surrounded him to watch, and we were laughing and clapping, like it was awesome. And he was so confused x'D He's like "But juggling is so easy..."
