You mention wanting something serious vs casual, and "serious about you", which can be two different things. As far as casual or not, you're best to just directly ask him what he's looking for (and also tell him what you're looking for). And sometimes guys can be "open" to both, depending on what the woman is looking for, or how the relationship/dates go. Serious about you is the same as if you like a guy, they'll take an interest in you as a person and your life. When feelings start to develop, they'll naturally want to spend more and more time with you.
