How do you know a guy is serious about you?

I'm really bad at reading people's intentions, especially men's.

The guy I'm talking about is a friend of mine, he's really funny, I'm never bored with him, he doesn't seem to mind that I'm quite different from the others (no parties, nothing illegial, an outcast these days).

I don't want to assume anything but lately I noticed that the atmosphere between us has changed, he always complimented me but lately he's been doing so much more, we're also spending more time together than before, we actually go out of our comfort zones for each other.

So I was wondering, could any of this be a sign of him being interested in more?

I've always been a relationship-type of gal only, he's more of a skirt chaser.
We know each other for a year or so.
I must add that he's 10 years older. I'm 23, he's 33. --- could the age difference be a problem?

A few years ago, one of my best friends who’s a dating coach instilled in me the importance of dating with intention. Knowing what you want in a man, and being sure you are investing time in someone who meets those standards. If you want to know where he stand — then ask. If you’re afraid to talk to him about your feelings then you can’t talk about anything, and that’s just not ok. So flat out, ask him what his intentions are for talking to you, so that you can compare notes and see if you have the same goal for what you seek in eachother. It may seem blunt, but it’s direct and effective.

I think he’s interested in you but if he’s a player he might just want sex. Probably does actually. But it is possible for a player to be genuinely interested in a girl. Just really rare.

I dunno how I answered it.
As I said, I'm not good at this, not experienced enough with relationships. Others here on GAG are so I asked for an advice.
