My boyfriend won’t let me hold his phone?

My boyfriend and I have been together about two years. I have always let him go through my phone anytime he wants. He can pick me phone up and use it anytime and I usually don’t even ask what he’s doing on it. I have nothing to hide. I don’t usually do this to him because I trust him and don’t usually need to use his phone very often. In the beginning of the relationship we never had any problems with this. But recently he’s been refusing to let me hold his phone.. he says if I want to look at something he will hold it and show me. He won’t even let me touch the screen. He’s also been adding girls on Snapchat without telling me. (We have an agreement that if someone of the opposite sex wants to add us on snap we tell the other person). When I have guys even from work add me for things like asking about schedule he freaks out. But he adds girls all the time and I never bug him about it I only ask he return the favor and tell me if they do. Recently I saw a new girls name pop up on his phone. So I didn’t say anything until later when I said hey can I see your Snapchat. He opened it up and showed me and her name wasn’t on there. I even asked if he had added anyone new and he said no. When I told him I saw her name he said he just didn’t want me to worry so he cleared her chat but offered to delete her. I know him hiding her from me is a problem of it’s own but I mostly just want to know why you guys think he is so against me touching his phone? I think it’s mostly cause he’s hiding things from me and likely cheating but really hoping there might be another reason.

Unless you have a history of dropping things to break them in a thousand pieces, to throw a tamper tantrum with people's property or to be clumsy to such an extend that you break everything that comes into your hands, there is no valid reason why your boyfriend would suddenly not allow you to even touch his phone, even in his presence.

His behavior is typical of someone that fears that something that should not be seen will be found. In other words, he is hiding something from you. The problem is that the longer he keeps having this type of behavior, the more you will get suspicious.

If he does not want you to touch his phone, then ask him to manipulate it under your supervision and you tell him what he must search, which apps he must open, which folders you want to see and which numbers he called, respectively which calls he received.

That way, he has no other option to comply if he does not want you to become really suspicious of his behavior. If he cannot trust you to handle his phone, he can manipulate it himself under your instructions.

The way I see it things like phones, bank details, medicial shit, whatever, thats all completely private, you share information about it if you choose to but there is never any kind of requirement to do so and trying to force access to this clearly deeply personal and private information is a massive boundary violation.

The long and the short of it is that relationships are built on trust and if you dont have trust then you dont have a relationship either.

You dont trust him and it would seem that you are right to mistrust him so just shit can it and move on.
