If you got to the point of asking him why he takes so long to reply, it means there is something off. When someone takes long to reply, they know it. And if they know, but never come up spontaneously with explanations, it means they don't care about talking with you, otherwise they would be worried you'd go to someone else if they ignore you too much, or anyway that you would get pissed and simply mind your business ignoring them in return.
Think about that: you have surely some close friends who occasionally couldn't reply for some hours, or a day, and when they contacted you back they most likely told you:"Sorry I was doing X", "sorry I read then I forgot to reply because I was distracted by X", etc. This is the norm. If someone doesn't do that, after ignoring messages for many times, it means they're just not interested in talking with you. Plus, saying "I'm busy with business" without any attempt to repair (like proposing something better later, to do together) or to apologize, well... It speaks by itself I guess. And he doesn't even specify what is this "business", that could be instead a hook to start a conversation about how things are going, in general. So...
Don't fall into this trap of wandering in his vaguity trying to see chances into possible abstract interpretations, because it fuels a toxic addiction in you to people who reject you, and that's bad. Take a reality check: he isn't putting any effort in trying with you, or in keeping you around. And this is it...
Plus you uncovered your cards by asking him why he takes so long to reply: you shown you're often waiting for his messages, noticing how much time he takes, so it shows how you are much more attached than him, and would like to get more. Considering he is already not interested, showing you are more needy than what he is giving, just makes things worse. Try to keep things balanced. When you sense something is off with a guy, don't wait for him. They are generally direct and it will be clear when they are, or aren't, interested in you. If you have doubts, it's more likely a no... And if you move on, if it wasn't really a "no", they will run back to keep you there.
