He always reciprocates sentiments but never initiates them. What could this mean?

Is he just more so being polite? Or could he really feel the same?

for example I always message him after dates that I had a great time I enjoy talking with him and he always reciprocates what I say. I said at one point “you’re gonna miss me” and he said “i am gonna miss you”

while at first I took this to mean he feels the same, I started to realize that im always the one initiating and leading these sentiments. Could he just be more so polite?

He probably just doesn't want to seem to over the top by messaging immediately after a date. However the fact you seem to have been on a few dates already confirms that he likes you.

Yeah we’ve been on 4 dates plus a weekend getaway his actions seem to point to really liking me but words and in between times he’s very held back which is why I end up initiating

He's getting what he wants with as little effort as possible. He has no backbone and does not know how to head unless he "wants something"
