How do you know a guy likes you even though you barely speak to eachother?

We have lab together at university. I really like him and I don't know if there might be more. This Thursday a few days ago I had my back turned to him and for some reason I felt the need to turn around and when I did he was staring at me but had moved his gaze and body not facing me anymore. The other time I catch him staring from my peripheral vision but I don't know if I was imagining it. He opened the door for me cause we had left class I had two of my classmates not far back. So either he was being a gentleman or he could've chose to go in without keeping the door for us. When the teacher gives us directions for our lab and the whole class needs to see what she is demonstrating which is exactly where his seat is I try to get his attention by staring not for long but we stare at each other. For some reason I can't get myself to start a conversation. But like sometimes when I have to do experiments its right next to his seat I remember on the first day of class my back was facing him but I had catch him glance at my backside for a few seconds. Flash forward to this week on Thursday I was walking to the experiment table and he and I shared another glance at each other which i held for a few seconds. I could tell that he's quiet to himself most of the time but very sociable with his group. Our class is set up as a lab with three large table he sits on the left lab table i sit in the middle. So we are very close to each other. Lemme know what you guys think?

How does it happen that the two of you sit right next to each other in the 3 seats? Are you first sitting in the middle and he joins you? Or he's at the end and you sit in the middle? Does he try to move his chair further away from you? A good sign if he doesn't

nope its a lab meaning the we have three big tables. Each table has two sides where students sit a right and left side. One table is the furthest from the door on the left side and the middle table where I sit on the right side. He sits on the right table closest to the door on the right side. It's like a row of students facing the desk of the professor. We have a clear view of each other. So if had sat on the left side instead of the right side we would be sitting next to each other. It was assigned seats so that is our seat for the entire semester
