His landlord sold his flat so he had to find to a place. I offered he could just stay with me and so far we have been getting on very well with no fights and we both put in 50/50 effort

Having a great relationship is a rare thing and the last thing you should be doing is questioning is why it's so good. The people who say that every relationship should involve fighting if you truly love each other are just young and dumb. Don't find the lack of fighting as a sign of a problem just because it doesn't fit your average pairing of two immature people who escalate conflicts rather than resolving them.
