I applied for this printing job at the company and this hiring manager gave his life story about his divorced saying his wife left him and he's staying at his dad's this guy looked about 50 odd

Firstly, he must have inherited that company as no one who built a company would put it at Risk in that manner. Secondly, you must be Hot ♨️. Ought to be fun for you to watch him cross his Ts 👔 and dot his I (s) around you.,..

No, that wasn't really appropriate. He's obviously going through some things, but he's clearly OVERSHARING his life a bit, especially considering you are a stranger, and that he's meeting you in a business context.

I cannot imagine sharing such personal details in that kind of situation. When I am hiring, my conversations rarely stray even a short distance from the job. To do otherwise is unprofessional.

It’s definitely weird to talk about something so personal with someone you’re interviewing. But poor guy is just going through a tough time and probably needed to vent a little bit
