Boyfriend got mad because I liked a guy’s comment on my post, is he overreacting?

So I posted a photo of me on insta, it wasn’t sexual or anything. It’s just an “artsy” pic of me looking away from the camera, fully clothed (no skin showing whatsoever bcs I’m wearing a coat), with trees and leaves as the background. Then some guy that I know, that I have 0 history or chemistry with, commented “beautiful!”. I always reply to comments or at least give them a like, and since I don’t know him that well I just decided to “like” the comment and leave it as it is.

My boyfriend saw it and he flipped out. I understand that he might be uncomfortable with it but he started accusing me of flirting back with him, he said that I’m opening the doors to infidelity and that now he thinks that I flirt around with guys online (and offline). He started making all kinds of negative assumptions about me and even brought up my pasts (with my exes and all, which is all irrelevant…)

All I did was like a comment, I never talked to him not even in the DMs so I thought it was just a harmless comment. Is he overreacting or am I being insensitive?

He is of course overreacting especially since you stated you do this habitually. Which also makes me wonder why this one time stood out.

But! I am also sat here chuckling because tonight my gal, you're one of the bros. This is the nonsensical stuff some of us deal with regularly. Real gender reversal on stereotypes!

I guess bcs this particular comment is of a guy saying “beautiful” (which my boyfriend saw as him being flirty with me), most of the time my guy friends would just comment useless stuff so my boyfriend has no problem with it.

Yeah 😂 I don't know how you guys deal with it, I’m also guilty of overreacting so I don’t have the right to complain about my boyfriend overreacting I guess lol

Yeah, if you solve it let the rest of us know. I think the typical guy solution for now is to call her silly, reaffirm her a whole bunch, possibly capitalize on the hot emotions and have some fun, and then be overly upfront with any similar situations going forward.

E. g next time you'd tell him you're going to like this comment but only like him sort of deal. Full disclosure and let him feel involved. Creates that notion that you understood and care about his feelings. Which I guess you do.

I told him everything that I knew about the guy, how I met him, what kind of friendship/interactions we had, if we ever remained in contact, I pretty much answered any and all of his questions without “talking back” at him and it seemed to work! Then I told him I understood why he would feel uncomfortable so I promised to not do it again and that I will post more pics of him lol

That’s a great tip, I’ll definitely push myself to be transparent even down to the minor things like liking a comment lol. Thanks a bunch for the help!

He’s overreacting. If you liking comments is something that bothers him, then all he has to say is “I don’t like that, it makes me uncomfortable” end of conversation. But to flip out and accuse you of cheating and all that is just unnecessary and dramatic.
Seems like he’s super insecure. Especially if he brings up your past as if any of it really matters

My thoughts exactly! I will be completely fine had he simply told me that he’s uncomfortable with the whole thing but he had to take it above and beyond lol I had to stay up until 4 am trying to convince him that there’s nothing going on

Yep, I won’t be liking any guy’s comment from here on now. Even the ones from my friend group. I still think that my boyfriend overreacted tho, he could’ve told me that he doesn’t want me liking other guys’ comments and leave it at that. But instead he started going on this long rant about me plotting to cheat on him when all I did was like a comment…
