Me and my ex were dating two years ago, we had sex 3-4 time out the week. Sex was never an issue for us. We broke up last year and started dating each other again this year. He barely wants to have sex now. The thinks that used to turn him on about me no longer turns him on. He claims he’s stressed from work, and we’ve known each other and gotten comfortable with each other. However, when I want to have sex he refuses me. He barely even likes cuddling with me. I brought this topic up to him but now he thinks all I want is to use him for sex but that’s not the case. He’s 39 going on 40 and I’m 27.

Yes, even though he wants you to come over often. This is what I mean by the familiarity aspect. You two have created a pattern of being on and off, and sort of like a comfort zone. It’s like when you’re in a relationship for a long time and then breakup, the idea of starting completely over with someone new is exhausting. Sometimes mentally it just makes more sense to double back on that person you’re used to going back and forth with. There’s no starting over really and just picking back up. But despite all of those feelings, it does not mean he is the right person for you and vice versa.

He says he wants to get to know you outside of sex which normally would be fine, but earlier into the situationship. After two years of this, is he implying he doesn’t know you well enough? Has he been consciously making the effort to know you better, or dragging his feet? Remember, words can only hold so much weight when actions are not matching up.
