i think a lot of it is because they don’t really receive the essential emotional and mental support and affection that women can provide, from their guy friends. and when they receive that from a woman they tend to get attached quickly or think they have a chance with said woman because they feel they’re receiving something special instead of realizing that women are naturally that way with most of our acquaintances.


regardless, because men don’t know how to control their emotions and i don’t have time to deal with betrayal, i purposely avoid befriending men. i don’t trust them and i don’t have time for the emotional games. any guy i become an acquaintance with is a guy i am attracted to and that i’ve expressed my attraction to from the start.

Its unfort that you ladies have this view. As I have never seen it as a problem. As I certainly don't have the intention to sleep with every girl I meet. However, I was also raised that ladies are to be respected unless given reason to not be.

In addition, since gaming was brought up, I have groups depending on the game that is being played at that time, where a lot of the time its more ladies than guys. Some of the funniest games I have had the pleasure of getting. Where I was raised when gaming you were in the same room as other people and shit talking was better than the internet days we have now. But to hear them go off in game chat or post lobby has had my sides hurting more than a few times.

as I've mentioned many times before, most of my best and close friends are women, and many of the acquaintances I am friendly with are women as well, and this has been ongoing for the last 26 years of my life as a constant... lol

but I am a man... also worth to point out that for the last 16 years of my life, at least 80% of that time I have been with a girlfriend of mine and in a relationship, so I do not really need to go out and be desperate and wanting to hit on everyone woman that crosses my way, lol

I think girls strongly overestimate the quality of their friendship, in men's eyes. Men view friendships totally differently from how women do, and friendship with a woman is just not emotionally fulfilling for us.

I think we have just been programmed to think we need to be in relationships. My dad won’t stop asking every new girl he meets around me if she is single and if she is he makes it very obvious that I need to get to know her and ask her out on a date. And then I find myself doing the same to my nieces and nephews. I hat the structure of it but that is how it works. It is fine and encouraged to he friends when you have a loved one. This is such a great question. I think they can be. And I think there's probably a lot more of it out there then we may notice/give credit for. I have a lot of women friends and acquaintances from whom I've never wanted more.

But, then, I read the responses below and what you wrote and others responded with has so much validity. I wonder, though, do all the times that men just want more outweigh any of the times that men really genuinely want to be friends/acquaintances? I also think that @sassy_receptor nailed it in her comments about men latching on to emotional connection/support/affection and getting too attached. I wish that we (humans generally) could actually encourage more of that connection between men and women so that we could normalize it. Maybe then men could start to discern between being friends with a woman and seeking something more.
