Is this comment from a 9 year old boy normal to his teacher normal?

I am a teacher and sometimes I say good girl or good boy when my students do well. There is this one boy who is quite clever but his response took me by surprise. He said I’m not a boy I’m a man and your a girl not a woman. He has said that he is not a boy but a man to me a few times now. I don’t know what to make of this. He is quite bold to say this to his teacher. He is well behaved and a great student but this comment shocked me. My teachers used to say good boy/girl when I was young so I didn’t see the harm in it

He probably has a Macho Dad and a reassuring Mom who tell him these things. It sounds like he is echoing what he has heard at home. it's better than "all women are hoe... and teacher you are woman, therefore, suck my%%)(#, hoe.

Kids will say anything, years ago my mother sent me and my sister to Bible School at the First Presbyterian Church and I told this teacher that Jesus kept crying and Moses told him to go fly his kite, so you see kids say all kinds of things also I remember this one nurse at that Bible School scared me with a needle like she was going to give me a shot because I wouldn't stop crying and asking for my mother.
