Could be a few things, but I know that my own reasons for preferring plain janes are that:

• successful women are generally more argumentative and unpleasant to be around.
• career-oriented women in my life previously have made a point of competing with me, which ruined vibes.
• I just... I just don't really need more money. I could have it, but I earn all I need now, and having more money wouldn't necessarily make me any happier.
• I prefer the privacy of having a woman who isn't in the public eye.

So if she’s that demanding professionally, maybe she’s a pain in the ass in a relationship? Also, given that she performs so much, maybe the poor guy is just sick of her never being home? Not all guys are so superficial that they would rather date a beautiful wealthy singer, than a regular woman who is actually physically there? Besides if this guy could get Shakira, I'm quite sure he could get any woman he wanted! So why tolerate a demanding beautiful singer, if he could get another beautiful woman who’s always home?

1. Mental compatability.
2. Looks.
Most people want both in one person.

Success can be part of that, or it can be irrelevant, depending upon what kind of person is looking.

I care about talent, intelligence, shared hobbies and interests, kindness, and looks.

Now a successful woman an have all that, or they might not. But I do not care about the success itself, only the type of person.

Money and status is not a factor in picking a partner.

Societal pressures. You're a nice person—a good person in my eyes. But the media will tell you you are not living up to your potential. You need more. You work in STEM and become an engineer or scientist to be a real woman.

But to me, you're perfect the way I see you. No matter how you want to live your life you are perfect to me. But when you start listening to everyone else and start making decisions that are not your own, that's when you lose what made you special to me.

If you want to run a daycare instead of being the CEO of Goldman Sachs, I am fine with that. When you give up on your identity, the thing that makes you, then that's when it things become more difficult.

It's the idea of being equal. She thinks everyone needs to be a mirror of herself. She might feel it's beneath her to show her vulnerabilities to him.

A lot of women feel they need to be like men. Like they need to be equal. But men and women created all this technology and great things around us because we love we each other.

Just dont read too much into it. You dont need to be anything special. Don't make your relationship artificial. Keep it organic. You dont need to do things to keep your boyfriend artificially attracted.

Trying to make someone like you has the opposite effect. It makes someone, not like you. It's like a salesman. You dont want to hear what they say because they are fake. Just filter what you say through your personality. Speak to him.
