Why did he follow me with his friends?

I saw my ex standing near the entrance of the coffee house with his friends after months of not seeing each other. The place was full so they were at the end of the que to the cash register.

So me and my friend wanted to go to that coffee place too. We were walking towads the entrance of that coffee place.

My ex was standing near the entrance of the coffee place. His back was towards me. His friend that was standing infront of him saw me. When I saw my ex I didn’t go inside the coffee house and walked past it ( I didn’t want to bump into my ex)

After that they head out of the coffee house and was walking behind us ! I then walked more faster with my friend and they went different way

Why did they leave the coffee house since they were already in the que?
