A guy I’m having a casual thing with ignored me for a month. He texted me after a month of no contact and didn’t respond when I replied the next day. Today I texted him. He replied he has been sick for 2 weeks? But he hasn’t been. Is he avoiding me or making excuses?

How do you know he hasn't been sick? Casual means he doesn't have to make excuses, or listen to you complain about him texting you more. You obviously don't want a casual relationship so I'm wondering why you agreed to be in one?

Gaslighting, as I know of it, is him doing the bare minimum to keep you interested or within reach. Ghosting is just dropping off the radar. To be honest, it sounds like both.
