What is the big deal?

My friend got sick, like really sick. He usually still talks on the phone or texts us but he didn’t for like two days. I went to his place and he’s literally stuck in the bed and looked terrible. He had chill bumps but his skin was hot. So I had to ask his sister to get the thermometer and just like I thought he had a fever. I went back to my house and made soup and brought it back to him because he hadn’t eaten. Anyway he texted me later asking why did that for him. I said cus I’m ur friend duh. He didn’t answer back. Did I do too much? Isn’t that a good friend act? I don’t get why he even asked that.

We misinterpret guys’ friendly gestures because they never do it traditionally, or in general, with all people- not for guys and not all girls. They reserve their best, for girls they’d “think in their head, to be “the one” to marry one day, in the far away land, of the future.”

They may then assume you did that because you see them as “marriage material,” and they’d low-key freak out.

They’re just not used to it.

That’s a reflection of your friendship and he’s gonna have to know that and accept that, or as friends decide if that’s uncomfortable and on his end if he wants to just keep things as laughing goofy friends who talk, but don’t do favors for each other. The same way a lady friend of yours may not like hugs because of her own reasons.

Some people need to see the kindness of humanity of friendship. Some things are uncomfortable because we never HAD it or anything like it before, and some are uncomfortable because of how we read it, or because we don’t like it when anyone does it for us or just certain people.

Maybe he felt “mothered” by you which was embarrassing?

I think at the same time, you don’t have to make a big deal out of it. You can just give soup or whatever, whenever, and tell him common sense means he needs to EAT SOME SOUP! Lol

Best to you. Don’t take on his perceptions, just respect his and move on from there.

That’s a good friend but will it be a frequent thing? Will you both be friends who do that for each other, whenever you’re both sick? Or was it a nice thoughtful gift because the circumstances seemed a bit serious?

He can’t get dependent on you… and vice versa. Maybe for now it would be nice? Maybe don’t expect him to do it back because maybe he’s not the thoughtful type like you are? Unless you asked when you were sick 🤔

I never had any friend do this for me and I don't know how I’d react myself.

Maybe it wasn’t meant to sound so literal. I know that depending what’s said through text, it can be interpreted differently than it was meant to sound by the sender. I’m sure he appreciates it, don’t get in your head too much.
