Why would my guy friend not mention he was married sooner?

I was talking for weeks to my guy friend, we’d just reconnected after a few years when he moved away. I used to like him- he didn’t feel the same but when we reconnected he was acting very friendly, nothing too flirty or anything crazy but it was just by chance after a joke he happened to say he was actually married weeks later. He has no trace of her online and when I asked him about married life he said it ‘wasn’t too bad’…I don’t even know how to talk to him now tbh it’s just weird, even as a friend… but why didn’t he mention her sooner?
