Why does he have to clean up?

So this guy I’m seeing invited me to come stay the night at his place. He invited me days ago but told me has has to clean up cause his house is very messy.

What do you mean why does he have to clean up? He told you why... because his house is messy... and he wants it to be clean before you come over. You can feel however you want about that. But there's no mystery here. 🙂

Well now, I really don't know. I couldn't know. Maybe it does. But couldn't it equally just be that he's got whatever going on in life making it inconvenient for you to come by on those days... independent of the cleaning?

I guess it depends on what exactly the nature of this invitation was. So if it's a matter of "I can't wait to have you over, and I will... immidiately... just as soon as I can get this place cleaned-up... I'll let you know as soon as that's all finished"

or

If he was more like "yea, you can come visit for sure. Gotta get the place cleaned up first lol." And then just hasn't followed up on the WHEN exactly you're to come visit.

Those are very different.
