Well when talking to others he needs to “puff his chest” a bit especially if you are there to maintain a masculine image. Otherwise he will be perceived as weak and be treated badly by some people. We like to think we are above this sort of thing, but we aren’t always. A lot of it is subconscious. It doesn’t mean he is or isn’t manly, but it helps I guess when no violence is going on.
