How can I respond to a guy that says he don’t care about himself?

The guy I’m talking to has been depressed.. and I’m not sure exactly how to respond after he told me he doesn’t care about himself and don’t need anyone else to care about him..

The guy is depressed and now self-isolationist because he is alone, which shows just how long he was depressed. Basically, at this point anything you say he will scrutinize in a negative manner so be prepared for a burst of explosions that he will likely regret when he realizes you're just trying to help. I mean, maybe it's worth a try to tell him depression isn't a permanent condition that one should keep entrenching themselves into - that he should get to see a therapist. Maybe tell him you appreciate talking to him and you don't think he should be alone because he feels he deserves it or chooses to be. Or send him a funny meme that he will like. That worked when I was depressed and my girlfriend helped me get out of it.
