No, absolutely not; there's no way you possibly could know right away. You have to see how someone conducts themselves in a number of different situations. You have to see how you fight with her. You have to see how you live together; that kind of thing.

It's very difficult to bypass time-based experiences like those. You can't get 5 years of experience in 1 year. You just can't. You need to do something for 5 years to have 5 years of experience.

Figuring out if a woman is marriage material is the same way.

It kind of works in stages for me.

6 month mark: I start considering marriage

1 year mark: I start saving for the date and ring for the proposal, knowing it will take a while to raise the money up. If things fall apart, I have a nice savings at least. This savings always has a penny in it so the account does not close, but it is separate from my normal bank, so even if we share finances for whatever reason, she will not know about this account and the surprise will not be ruined.

2-3 year mark: This is probably when I am going to propose or are close to it if we make it this far. The savings I started at the one year mark is enough for whatever I have in mind.

I think they know within a month of being with a girl, but they do not want to be super obvious that they like her so soon so they wait a while. It should not take more than three years though, and this is my opinion as someone with no experience in that.

I think it varies from guy to guy and also how old they are. For some it may be just months for others it may take a year or so. Some guys want to make sure it is the right thing and also to see if they are sexually compatible with her.
