They are not sure how they should approach.
Even when the girl likes him and they start seeing each other, some guys aren't sure how to proceed. How slowly should he go? It depends on the woman. Every woman is different. Some are bolder than others and give clear signals. But in many cases, the guy doesn't yet know what she wants. He doesn't want to blow it, so he's nervous.

Plus, some guys lack confidence, are inexperienced or naturally shy. It's nice if a girl can make him feel more secure and help him to know what she wants.

I was never particularly shy, but I would still get butterflies and sweaty palms on first dates.

I would have been a highly rated contender for the gold medal in shyness when I was a kid and also as a young man.

I worked very hard to overcome that shyness and I was successful over the period of a year or so of struggle, severe at first, but which got easier all the time as I progressed.

It was extremely difficult to do but it was worth the effort.

I've often wondered if I'd been successful if my serious, prolonged attempt at combatting shyness had been made at a younger age, when my hormones were raging out of control.

I'll never know.
