It allows participants to not become invested emotionally, to hold back, and to even ghost someone with a minimal sense of responsibility.

Texting is fine for “Can you get a gallon of milk on your way home.” Texting is awful for “would you like to go out with me Friday night?”

You wouldn't want that to be on a phone call, because that could quickly turn into "phone sex."
