What does it mean when a male colleague buys you a cake as an apology?

So I have this lunch appointment with my male colleague and somehow he forgot about that and went to have lunch without me. And he bought me a mini little cake on his way back to the office as an apology. Does it mean anything from guys point of view?

If you had an appointment and he forgot about it then this is just his way of saying sorry. I don’t know him or his intentions so I do not wanna give you false hope if it means nothing. I’d rather play it safe and assume it’s kindness, unless bigger things happen to show he likes you back.

It just means he is sorry for forgetting about your lunch appointment and he wanted to apologise to you. Nothing more.
